About

I am a Doctoral Research Fellow (stipendiat) in the Department of Health Management and Health Economics (HELED) at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo, where I have been a PhD candidate since 2023. Most of my work asks a version of the same question: given imperfect evidence, which diagnostic or treatment strategies are worth their cost, and for whom?

My doctoral work uses data from the METIMMOX trial, an investigator-initiated phase 2 trial of alternating immunotherapy and chemotherapy in metastatic colorectal cancer patients without MSI-high tumors. I look at how prognostic and predictive biomarkers differ, model the clinical and economic consequences of biomarker-guided patient selection, and lead a strand of the work on value of information analysis. I collaborate with the Department of Oncology at Akershus University Hospital and am part of the EU-funded ASCERTAIN project on the affordability and sustainability of health innovations.

Before Oslo, I was an internist. I trained at Charité in Berlin and NYU, took an MPH at Harvard, and from 2015 to 2024 practiced as a hospitalist at Massachusetts General Hospital while teaching as an Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School. Alongside clinical work I spent a decade in early health technology assessment consulting, mostly for medical device companies.

I met my wife in Boston while on a decision sciences research fellowship. We moved to Oslo in 2022 and are raising a young child here.
